‘You Can NOT Be Replaced’ began after a large suicide cluster in our community. We lost 7 students in 4 years. We started with 500 passable wristbands for local kids. 3 years later we have 37000 wristbands circulating the USA, Canada, UK and Australia. Chip and I now travel, speak at schools and communities answering our daughters question: ‘Dont they realize they cant be replaced?!’
You Can NOT Be Replaced focuses on the growth and strength of youth and families by promoting the irreplaceable value of each individual.
We encourage youth and adults to value themselves and the people around them by practicing altruism* and a pay it forward mentality. This is done simply by the passing of bands marked with the slogan ‘I Can NOT Be Replaced’, accompanied with an affirmation focusing on the importance of the person receiving the band. Encouragement is infectious and produces hope and regard for the value of each human life.
‘Tell me and I forget, Teach me and I remember, Involve me and I learn’ Ben Franklin
‘You Can NOT Be Replaced’ encourages confidence in the unique value of one’s own life and those around. Encouraging the good in each individual leads to forming stronger families and a better community. By adults attending to themselves and making themselves whole, we become a better example for our families and teach our children by our actions. Honesty, integrity, healthy living and relying on faith in something bigger than ourselves in times of weakness reflects a balanced adult to the watching child.
To love a person is to learn the song that is in their heart and sing it to them when they have forgotten.” ~ Thomas Chandler
We will be running our monthly resolutions through the blog. Our purpose is to serve you and help you be the best ‘one and only you’ that you can be. Only then can you encourage the same in the young people in your lives. This is where you’ll find daily tips and suggestions to work through each mini goal. By nurturing the whole person, parents first then children, we hope to strengthen families and communities by creating better relationships and bonds. Simple and doable daily and weekly tasks will be provided to help you along. The people who are sharing their wisdom are generous, kind and wise.
We look forward to our dialogue with you, and hope to hear from you soon. Grab a band and pass it to someone today!
